Horticulture Is Not Just For Little Old Ladies
Horticulture is the study of cultivating plants which also includes understanding how to cultivate the soil, breed the plants and understand how to improve resistance to insects. Horticulture tends to be kept on a smaller scale whereas agriculture is practiced on a much larger scale.
Many subcategories of horticulture are enjoyed such as floriculture which is the specialisation of flowers, aboriculture which is the study of trees and vines and viticulture which consists of the production of grapes.
Many people are taking on new hobbies with the goal of possibly developing these into small businesses. This can be seen by the increase of small vineyards being incorporated into private property. Homeowners are interested in making better use of their land rather than using grass as a covering. The damage it does in terms of fertilizers seeping into the ground water and increasing the nitrogen levels in bodies of water has people looking for alternative ways to make better use of their available land.
The study of horticulture is no longer just for little old ladies.
